A9. While we commend any legislative effort to save lives, recent history shows that the courts will likely strike down legislation which reduces abortions. For example: in Texas a prudent requirement for abortionists to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals was passed by the state Legislature, signed by the Governor, and approved by the federal district court. It was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court. That Court decision can now be extended to other states and sweep away years of pro-life progress that had reduced abortions.
